My name is Layla or Laylabird 🐞 I'm 19 and I am currently studying zoology at university! 🩷

Why does this website exist?

I HATE social media! D: It stresses me out so much, and it makes me feel devoid of all originality and authenticity. I had wanted to create my own personal website for so long, but I always assumed I would be too technologically inept to be able to code one. It turned out, however, that there are actually tons of helpful resources online that make creating your own website slightly less incredibly difficult! As I am still new to coding, my website likely has many imperfections, meaning it hopefully serves as a long-term project that I can work on in my free-time (there is a lot of free-time at uni that can get quite lonely if you don't have projects to fill it with).

One major reason I wanted my own website was so I could write a blog! I LOVE journalling with my whole heart, but I can't really go around showing people my physical journals, because they are incredibly personal to me. Here I can write personal blog posts reflecting on my week - using my physical journal entries - taking the time to edit them so that they are a bit more tame and acceptable for public viewing. I love documenting things like this as proof of my existence so that I can look back on it all when I'm older and remember the me I am right now. In real life I can be VERY talkative at times (and other times the complete opposite!), so writing essays to post on my website about whatever it is on my mind or that is interesting to me at the time is a great way to prevent me from giving everyone around me an earache.

My Interests:

Journalling! I write in my journal everyday and I don't think I could survive in this world without it. My journals are my most valuable possessions. I use them to write my blog!
Zoology, animals and conservation. I am studying a 4 year zoology degree at university and I would like to work in a conservation program/ animal sanctuary in the future! Here is a list of my favourite animals. I keep a physical nature journal, and I post excerpts from it in my blog on here too.
Photography. I don't know much about the actual technique of photography, but I enjoy being oblivious. Wildlife photography is what I am most interested in. I print out my favourite photos and put them into physical photo albums, but I also post the photos I am most proud of to my online photo album. I collect cameras and the main camera I use is the Olympus SZ-17, which used to belong to my Great Grandad. Here is my full camera collection.
The 2000s (especially the fashion and technology).
Writing - I am writing a novel called 'The Ending of Joan', and I like to write essays and blog posts for fun :p
